The Artist

David Fleming is an American painter whose work bridges structure and expression.

After beginning his career in industrial design—working with Ford Motor Company, Lockheed, and Porsche—he shifted his focus to painting in the 1970s. His compositions reflect that dual foundation, balancing architectural clarity with a more intuitive, painterly approach.

Influenced by the Bay Area Figurative tradition, Fleming’s work moves between abstraction and observation, often suggesting place and narrative without fully defining either.

Over the past several decades, his paintings have been placed in private residences, corporate environments, and hospitality settings across the United States, largely through direct relationships and word of mouth.

His work is also held within the creative community, including by fellow artists and design professionals drawn to the depth and discipline of his practice.
